14 Best Photo Shoot Spots in Soho

Whenever I have a blogger friend visit from out of town, I always get the same question: “Ooh, and can we go to SoHo??”

SoHo is seriously one of the cutest neighborhoods in NYC (if you’re looking for the best things to do in the neighborhood check out my guide here) and I find that I have SoHo bias as all three of my jobs have been located there. Since I first started working in SoHo I feel like I’ve snapped photos on virtually every street corner in the neighborhood radius and have a pretty good idea of what the best spots are to take pictures.

In the ‘70s SoHo became a mecca for artists to set up live-work spaces that doubled as both homes and studios (you can even tour some of them like Donald Judd’s home, which I highly recommend) and then in the early 2000’s it became more gentrified and is now known as one of the best shopping destinations in the city. From enticing storefronts to cute coffee shops, a stroll around SoHo will undoubtedly come with lots of Instagram-worthy moments.

If you’re a blogger planning a Soho photo shoot, be sure to save this post to refer back to. From unknown corners to the best Soho Instagram spots, these are my recommendations for where to take photos south of Houston.

1
Cafe Select is a bistro style European restaurant on Lafayette. From the delicious food to the ceiling of string lights this place was made for pics.
2
Cha Cha Matcha is a pink and green decorated matcha shop on Broome street that attracts a cool crowd of locals.
3
From life-size products to endless opportunities for mirror selfies The Glossier Flagship is a great place to get an easy shot if you're flying solo.
4
Grand Street (at Greene Street) is a great place to shoot! Avoid it during rush hour as the Holland Tunnel traffic will back up onto this street.
5
Anywhere along Greene Street is a prime spot to grab photos as most of the shops are lined with white columns and the road is made of cobblestones.
6
Iconic Magazines is an unexpected place to do a photo shoot. While you're there, pick up your favorite glossy and support print journalism!
7
La Esquina (literally meaning the corner) is on the corner of Kenmare and Lafayette street. It has walls lined with colorful bottles and a neon sign.
8
From the neon sign to the heart wall, Little Cupcake Bakeshop is a fun place to take photos by. Grab a cupcake from inside for an even sweeter shot.
9
Mercer Street is another scenic street for photos and there are lots of steps and stoops to perch on for a change of pace from your standing pics.
10
The NoMo SoHo Entrance is an iconic spot to grab a photo and the restaurant inside has high ceilings and chandeliers that will pop in photos.
11
Wander into Olfactory NYC and admire its colorful rainbow wall! Warning: you'll likely leave with an awesome custom fragrance as the owners are great.
12
Another perfect pink perch (say that 3x fast) in SoHo is outside of Italian restaurant Pietro Nolita. Oh, and the inside is great for photos too.
13
Seamore’s on Broome is known for its brightly lit interiors and rainbow heart exterior. I chose to match the background with some tie-dye!
14
Urban Backyard is the perfect place to grab an espresso and take a picture on it’s sweet front stoop on Mulberry Street.
When in doubt, wander along the streets and wait for a cab to come by!

Other pro tips for shooting in Soho:

  • Get there early on a weekday for the least crowded streets and sidewalks

  • Avoid shooting in Soho on a weekend as it will be much busier

  • Try several different angles of your shot. Sometimes you think one corner of a building will be perfect, but the light won’t be right.

  • If the original destination you wanted to shoot at doesn’t work out just stroll up or down a block and you’ll find other options.
