How To Style A Leather Mini Dress

Austen BK-11.jpg

Hi guys, I hope your week is off to a great start! Jessie and I went out in Brooklyn to take these photos this weekend and I was trying to picture what the accompanying text of the post would look like. One thing lead to another and it inspired me to start a new series here on Keep Calm and Chiffon. It’s going to be a styling series (anyone have any clever name suggestions other than "how to style x"??) and each month I’ll give some inspiration for how to style a certain item of clothing. This month’s how to style item is the leather mini dress. I got this one from Topshop in December, which if you follow my YouTube channel you’ll recognize from my Topshop haul during Vlogmas. I haven’t had an occasion to wear it out yet and I definitely wanted to take some photos in it. Since this was a daytime outfit, and the dress on its own is very dramatic, I really wanted to play up some layering. I think that this mesh top with the high neck from Nasty Gal was the perfect piece to go under the dress. The delicate floral pattern and the conservative silhouette counteract the blatant va-va-voom that comes from the black leather mini dress. I wanted to wear tights but didn’t want them to be opaque so these crocheted ones were perfect. A pair of thigh-high boots and a burgundy beret ties the look together.
