10 Ways to Use Canva as a Content Creator

As a content creator, I’m always on the lookout for tools that can streamline my workflow and make my content stand out.

Enter Canva, the graphic design platform that's been a game-changer for influencers and creators worldwide.

My favorite pitch for Canva is that it helps me LOOK like I know what I’m doing when it comes to graphic design even though I am very much not a graphic designer.

10 Ways to Use Canva as a Content Creator

Using Canva can help you grow and engage brands, show your consistent visual brand identity and even help you monetize your influence.

In this blog post, I'll share 10 ways you can leverage Canva to elevate your graphics as a content creator.

1. Creating and Selling Digital Products

To start off, you can create and sell digital products using Canva.

From ebooks to planners and workbooks, Canva empowers you to design and sell digital products that address a pain point of your audience and provide them with a solution.

The first digital product I ever created in Canva was my e-book, Right on Pitch.

After that I created more products including an invoice template and a campaign wrap up report that I’m able to sell as a template that others can modify thanks to Canva Pro.

Digital products have generated thousands of dollars of passive income for me in my influencer business.

Whether it's sharing your expertise or providing solutions to your followers' pain points, Canva makes it easy to package your knowledge into profitable digital offerings.

2. Designing Marketing Materials

Building a strong brand presence is made easier with eye-catching marketing materials.

Since Canva is extremely user-friendly and they have a vast library of templates, you can design everything from logos to event invitations with ease.

Canva puts professional-grade design tools at your fingertips.

I actually did choose to hire a graphic designer for my brand and website—shout out to Cheryl from Made on Sundays Studio!—and I’m able to take the colors and brand elements she used and easily create marketing materials in Canva.

Canva even enables you to select colors from a photograph which can be super helpful if you’re just getting started.

3. Crafting Website Graphics

Your website is your digital storefront, and Canva can help you make it shine.

Some things I’ve made for my website on Canva include graphics to promote my email newsletter, PNG images to elevate my consulting page testimonials, and even a visual timeline of my career journey for people to get to know me.

If you don’t want to spend hours figuring out how to place design elements throughout your website by coding, this is a simplified way to get a website that feels very customized.

4. Designing Social Media Templates

When it comes to expanding your reach on social media, you can use Canva to show up consistently across platforms.

From Pinterest pins that promote blog posts to graphics you may share on LinkedIn to quotes that you want to share on Instagram using your brand colors, there’s a template for everything on Canva.

I also love using Canva to create affiliate collages for LTK—this allows me to curate products that I think my audience would love and potentially earn commissions if any purchases are made!

With customizable templates and a myriad of design elements to add to your graphics, it’s easy to create designs.

Or you can even start from scratch and select any size template that you need: from a 9:16 Instagram story to a Facebook cover photo.

5. Crafting Media Kits

When collaborating with brands, a well-crafted media kit could be the difference between “hell yes, let’s partner” and “thanks, but not at this time.”

Canva's drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to create polished media kits that help communicate the value of your content to potential partners.

A great media kit will highlight your unique selling points and past successes—so you will likely want to include things like audience metrics, previous brand partners, and top platforms.

You can download your media kit as a standard PDF and share as an email attachment or you can share it with a view-only link.

You’ll likely want to update your media kit every few weeks or if you go viral.

I have a whole video where I walk you through creating a media kit over on my YouTube channel, so be sure to check that out!

6. Generating Exclusive Content for Patreon

For creators with Patreon memberships, Canva offers endless possibilities for your paid members.

In fact, lots of the content inside of my Patreon was created on Canva.

From desktop wallpapers to bonus guides, you can create exclusive content for your patrons with downloadable content.

This is also another great place where I’m able to share editable templates thanks to Canva Pro so that my members can access the same files I use in my business and put their own spin on them.

With Canva, you can effortlessly design content that keeps your Patreon community engaged and eager for more.

7. Crafting Presentations and Workshops

Say goodbye to dull presentations and hello to dynamic workshops with Canva.

Over the years I tried other tools like Powerpoint and Keynote to create presentations but Canva by far has the most templates and options to create a truly engaging presentation, in my opinion.

Whether you're hosting a virtual event or pitching to potential collaborators, Canva's presentation tools are excellent.

You can add animations, videos, and custom graphics to elevate your presentations and leave a lasting impression.

I’ve also created templates of slideshows within Canva that use my brand colors and fonts so I’m never starting from scratch when the time rolls around to create a new presentation.

8. Planning Your Instagram Feed

Listen, I know it’s 2024 and we’ve been told that aesthetic isn’t as important as it once was.

However, I still believe that a cohesive Instagram feed is a great way to not only draw in potential followers but also wow future brand partners.

Within Canva I used the Instagram story template and added in square frames to drag and drop photos into to help visualize my Instagram feed and plan my posts.

This is actually a resource that is available to my Patreon members, so you can unlock that by joining here.

Experimenting with different layouts and themes on your Instagram account can be fun, and this is a great way to get a birds eye view of your whole profile before posting content.

9. Designing YouTube Graphics

YouTube is one of the best places for an influencer in 2024, thanks to its searchable nature and AdSense revenue share with its creators.

From channel banners to video thumbnails and end screens, Canva is your one-stop creative destination for all things YouTube.

Create professional-looking graphics that enhance your channel's branding and entice viewers to click and subscribe.

There are even templates you can choose from if you have no idea where to begin and you can experiment with different types of thumbnails to increase your click-through rates.

10. Crafting Event Invitations

Whether it's a virtual meetup or an Instagram Live session, Canva has you covered when it comes to crafting event invitations.

Maybe you’re sending out an invite in an email blast or simply posting the details to your Instagram story—either way you’ll be hearing lots of yeses when you invite your audience to join you.

There are (surprise, surprise) lots of templates to choose from on the event front and you can even design invitations in Canva and place them elsewhere.

On a personal note, I designed our rehearsal dinner invitations on Canva but I was able to upload them to Evite to share with our audience since I preferred my design over their options.

You can even print directly from Canva so you could use it for wedding stationary, shower invitations or anything else you’d typically send via snail mail.

With Canva, you can design invitations that make your events unmissable.

And there you have it—10 ways that I use Canva as an influencer.
