The Best Video Editing Apps For Bloggers

A while back I wrote a post about the best photo apps for bloggers and when I checked back in my analytics on my site I realized that it did pretty well! Presenting the follow up: the best video editing apps for bloggers. You don’t even need to have video content to start creating videos—you can repurpose old photos and turn them into something more animated.

If you’ve been wanting to start a YouTube channel or simply upgrade your Instagram story game, now is a great time to invest time into trying out some new tools to elevate your content.

Jumprope

Okay I work at Jumprope and there’s some definite bias here but I can’t explain how much of a timesaver this app has been for me as a creator. Jumprope allows you to create a video once and then it automatically generates exports for every social media platform—you get a 4:5 video for your Instagram feed, a horizontal video for YouTube, 9:16 for Instagram stories and so on. You also get three images for Pinterest and an HTML format for your blog (see this blog post and this blog post to watch the HTML format in action.

I use Jumprope most for IGTV, Instagram stories the blog export and Pinterest. You can customize your videos with custom colors and fonts and even put in your own hex values for the colors. I wish I had started my YouTube channel with Jumprope…thinking of all the time it may have saved me is crazy.

Not only are the editing tools on Jumprope smooth and super user-friendly but it’s also a platform that allows you to discover other creators who you may not find on Instagram. Definitely check it out and if you ever have any questions you can email me at austen@jumprope.com and I’ll be sure to help you out!

Mojo

If you have wanted to elevate your Instagram stories, Mojo is definitely the app for you. You can create awesome videos that incorporate text, images, videos, or all three. I think this makes the typical story text slide more interesting. I don’t use it for large chunks of text but I tried it out last week to do a “new blog post” Instagram story slide before linking my post and I felt like it looked so much more professional and engaging than what I had used in the past.

I have only used the free version and feel like I can do a lot with it but the paid version seems to have cooler transitions, templates and more animation options so if you are a business owner I think it could be worth checking out for $9.99/month or $39.99 per year.

InShot

For nothing fancy, straightforward video editing InShot is definitely the way to go. I used InShot to stitch together Instagram stories into a few mini vlogs of this past season of New York Fashion Week to share to my IGTV and it was super easy to use.

You can import your own music, trim and split clips easily, and add text overlay too. I haven’t really used it for anything since fashion week but I’ve also heard a lot of creators say they use it to edit TikTok videos if they don’t feel comfortable using the in-app tools.

Canva

I’m putting Canva on here because you may think of it primarily as a tool for designing image graphics but they just started allowing you to upload video to your account and you can create some really cool stuff. I made this graphic for our Jumprope Instagram feed to announce a new feature and it looks so cool! I haven’t played around with it too much yet, but I’ll continue to try it out.

Some other apps I haven’t tried but have heard great things about:

Clipomatic: automatically generates a transcription in text for your videos

Vimeo Create: sophisticated video editing for your phone, pretty pricey subscription

Splice: similar to InShot you can stitch vertical video together on your phone

What else would you add to this list? Tell me in the comments!
