10 Thrift Fashion Bloggers You Need To Follow

thrift bloggers.png

I will never forget walking into the Buffalo Exchange on W 26th Street in 2013 and coming across a pair of real Jeffery Campbell Litas in my size. Sure, they were an American flag print, but for $20 I knew I could make them work! I had bought a pair of black knockoffs from Necessary Clothing and they were painfully uncomfortable and the heel was slightly too skinny to pass for a Lita IRL, although I could probably get away with tagging the brand on Instagram and no one would be the wiser.

The sustainable fashion movement is truly here to stay. Some of you have probably been in on the perks of thrifting for some time now while others may be dipping your toes for the first hand into the world of secondhand clothing. And who should we look to for guidance in navigating the ins and outs of thrifting? Thrift fashion bloggers!

Whether they’re vlogging themselves going to Goodwill and scoring some epic finds, creating TikTok videos about how to bargain in a thrift store or writing blog posts about things that maybe you should skip at the thrift store, this crew of creators works overtime to help you make the most of your experience thrifting.

I talked to 10 of them and asked them all to share their best tips for new thrifters, why they love shopping secondhand and one piece of content that they’ve created on the topic that you have to check out.

Why do you love thrifting?

Thrifting is the best treasure hunt of all time! I take so much more pride in what I wear because I took the time to dig and find it and ultimately fall in love with it. Plus it slows the cycle of clothing winding up in landfills. With patience and a little love, you can't lose!

Best tip for new thrifters?

My best advice for new thrifters would be to check every section—even men's! You never know what you're going to find. I also have a blog post on my thrifting secrets here.

Why do you love thrifting?

The thrill of the hunt! You can always expect something different when you go to a thrift store since the inventory is always changing. Digging through the racks I can always find gold—a 1950s vintage dress, discounted designer, or even Zara basics. It's the sustainable and affordable way to have a unique wardrobe and style.

Best tip for new thrifters?

I always tell new thrifters and vintage shoppers to get out of their comfort zones. The stores are often crowded and a bit disorganized, which can be overwhelming. When actually going through the racks, thrift shopping is a great opportunity to try a new print, color, or silhouette that you wouldn't normally wear.

Why do you love thrifting?

Thrifting is awesome because everything is one-of-a-kind and you never know what you'll find. It's like a treasure hunt! But what I love most about shopping at thrift stores is the incredible deals and knowing that the profits are going to help a good cause.

Best tip for new thrifters?

My best tip for thrift newbies is to be patient. A great thrift haul doesn't happen at one store! To really "score," take your time and go to lots of stores over a period of time.

Why do you love thrifting?

Thrifting was my introduction to the sustainable fashion movement- it was a way for me to extend the useful life of the clothes that already exist without breaking the bank. As my journey with sustainable fashion has gone on, however, I have come to appreciate all of the unique finds I’ve found at thrift stores!

Best tip for new thrifters?

Be a conscious thrifter! It is easy to be distracted by low prices at the thrift store but make sure you’re still thinking through your purchases so you don’t over-consume and end up with items you won’t actually wear. Try things on whenever you can, look for any hardware that may need to be fixed or stains that may need to be covered, and think about how that item will fit with the clothes already in your closet.

Why do you love thrifting?

Not only is it one of the most sustainable ways of shopping, but you’ll also have a one of a kind outfit. Thrifting has become such a creative outlet for me, and I love making old, new!

Best tip for new thrifters?

Make a list of things you’re looking for. Bring a measuring tape if you can’t try on. Look for high quality fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen. Focus on a few sections or give yourself a time limit so it’s not too overwhelming!

Why do you love thrifting?

I grew up shopping secondhand so I've always loved the thrill of the hunt. You never know what you're going to find and the pieces you do come across can be so unique. I also do it because it's a way to live and shop more sustainably. The fashion industry is one of the highest polluting industries in the world and thrift shopping is just one small way I'm doing good for the planet.

Best tip for new thrifters?

Go often and be patient! Stores are adding new stock everyday so the more you browse, the better chance you have at finding that one-of-a-kind find.

Why do you love thrifting?

I love thrifting because it's an inexpensive way to shop for high quality clothing and home goods. It's also one of the most sustainable ways to shop.

Best tip for new thrifters?

Always check the "go back" rack by the fitting rooms. This is where you can find a lot of great items without having to spend too much time searching.
